Week 2

Last night was a nice night to be outside and unwind after another week of school.  It was great to see the LCSD community come together to support the Holy Rosary Raiders as they handed Bonnyville a 60-20 loss.  It was especially great to be a part of the St. Thomas sea of blue and gold as the support from our staff, students and parents at the football game was amazing.  Way to go Tigers!

In K-2 this week, we reviewed moving in our personal space and shared space as we practiced the eight basic locomotor movements: walk, run, hop, jump, skip, gallop, leap and side-slide.  The students really enjoyed our game of Traffic Light Tag where we used colored pool noodles to tag one another.  If tagged by a red noodle we stopped, yellow we slowed down and green we got to go faster.  A great game where we got to practice all our locomotor skills.

In the upper grades we continued working on our classroom procedures and routines as well as spent some time on the soccer field working on ball handling, dribbling, passing and punting skills.  I was very impressed at the skill level of the grade 3's and 4's.  They displayed some great ball handling and dribbling skills.  It looks like we"ll have some strong soccer teams in the years to come.

The students also got a chance to play a pool noodle tag game that had them huffing and puffing in a matter of minutes.  The pool noodles work great for tag games because when the students follow the safety procedures for using the noodles, they are not as likely to push each other from behind or hit each other too hard, which often happens in traditional tag games.
A few other things to note, volleyball season will be starting up soon for grade 7 students.  Information will be going home this week with those students interested and will be posted on this blog.  Also, our cross country runners had their first meet this past Thursday.  I have yet to receive word on the final placings in the event, but I heard our runners represented our school very well.  They will have another meet coming up on September 26.

Finally, for those interested in school clothing, I will have some samples of the hoodies and sweatpants available to try on this week at the school.  Unfortunately, I was unable to get any t-shirt samples, however, the supplier mentioned that the t-shirts and hoodies should fit similar.  Please feel free to come in and try them on.
