Time for a Break!

I think now that the excitement of report cards, Halloween and all the snow is over the students (and teachers) are ready for a little break.  The weather report is showing some warmer temperatures next week, so take the opportunity to get outside for a little bit with your kids to do something active, like go for a walk, go tobogganing or build a snow fort.  It might also be a good time to get the kids to untangle the Christmas lights and check for burnt out bulbs before you get out the ladder to hang them up.  I know that's what I'll be doing.

PE this week was great!  In K-2, "musical scare" was a popular wamup activity this week.  The students loved dancing and moving around like zombies and other scary creatures to some Halloween hits and then making their scariest face every time the music stopped.  It was a lot of fun! The students also enjoyed playing "Ghostbusters" which had them practicing their overhand throwing skills.  The object of the game was to get the ghosts (white fluff balls) out of your house (side of the gym) and throw them into your neighbours house (other side of the gym).  The gym was divided by mats standing up on end, so some of the students really had to focus on throwing the ball up and out to get it over.  Whichever team had less ghosts on their side at the end was declared the best Ghostbusters!

In 3-7 PE, the students did some fitness training and continued our unit on volleyball.  We got into some modified game play this week using the badminton courts so more students could be involved at once.  We played a game called "Newcomb" which helps the students understand court positioning and proper rotation.  The game involves tossing the ball over the net rather then serving, bumping or setting it over.  Some students thought the game was rather easy at first, but found it got more difficult as other players started to understand the game better and tried different strategies.  From here, with some classes we progressed to allowing players to bump or catch the ball.  We will get to full games after the break with most classes, where we will put all our skills to the test.

Finally, I checked on our school clothing orders and they should be ready after the break.  We will get them out to students once we receive them at the school.  Thanks for your patience.
